Evidence lockers preserve item custody while authorized roles request and read delayed forensic reports. This guide remains a draft while the two-player custody and report walkthrough, including a scrubbed exhibit, remains unverified, and while the locker list still shows only its newest exhibits without paging.
Check role and locker access
Evidence actions require membership in the locker’s owning faction, active duty, and the capability assigned to that action. Reading reports through the MDC additionally requires records access.
Reports are roleplay intelligence. They do not automatically create a charge, conviction, or penalty.
Book an item
- Hold the intended item and package it where its owning domain requires.
- Stand at the authorized evidence locker.
- Use the book action under
/evidencewith a concise incident note. - Wait for final custody confirmation.
- Refresh the locker list.
Booking transfers the item into evidence custody without rewriting its legal owner. The incident note is required and bounded; a full sentence is accepted, and a note that is too short, too long, or carries unsupported characters is refused before anything moves.
List and submit an exhibit
Use the list action under /evidence for held exhibits and report state. The list shows only the newest held exhibits and does not page or warn you when older ones are left off, so a busy locker can hide an exhibit; do not guess a reference for one that is not displayed.
Use a fresh exhibit reference with the lab action. A lab request cannot be cancelled or duplicated. Examination is delayed rather than an immediate guaranteed result.
Spent casings recovered from a shooting scene book and submit exactly like any other exhibit. Their report additionally describes the ammunition and round count, and may connect them to a firearm this organization has already booked and to other scenes where casings from that firearm were recovered. The comparison covers what the evidence room held when the examination was ordered, so a firearm seized afterwards needs a fresh request. See Spent casings and shot scenes.
Read reports through the MDC
Authorized members use the exhibits actions under /mdc to list and read available reports. Reopen the current list before selecting another exhibit.
Do not infer or publish lab algorithms, timing, confidence, hidden identity data, or source records beyond the report actually presented to the role.
Release custody
Use the take action under /evidence with the current exhibit and a required release reason, which is bounded the same way as the booking note. Success transfers it into the acting officer’s custody and closes that booking. Releasing an item does not erase an already completed report or custody history.
Persistence and recovery
Lockers, bookings, item history, lab requests, completed reports, and authorized access records persist across reconnects and restarts. Organization deletion is blocked while it owns a locker.
- A reference is stale: reopen the locker or MDC list.
- Booking note or release reason is refused: shorten or lengthen the text to the stated bound rather than trying alternate input to bypass it.
- Locker list appears incomplete: it may genuinely be truncated. Do not guess undisplayed references; use only a displayed contextual entry and release older exhibits so the list stays workable.
- Lab submission is already pending: wait and reopen later; there is no cancellation.
- Custody disagrees: compare inventory and locker state before any second movement.
Staff correction, hidden report generation, access-monitoring internals, and forensic tactics are intentionally omitted.
