Use your account username when you add or connect to Southland. Your account is linked to Discord and owns your character slots; it is not the in-character name other players see after you select a character.

Register your account

You need a vouched Discord identity before you can create a game account.

  1. Join the Southland Discord and ask an eligible community member or staff member to vouch for you.
  2. Choose the account username you will use to connect. It must be 3-20 letters, numbers, or underscores and cannot already be an account or character name. Matching is case-insensitive.
  3. Use the Discord /register command for that same username. Discord privately returns a one-time registration code bound to it.
  4. Connect to Southland with the account username. When the registration prompt appears, enter the code from Discord.
  5. After the account is linked, continue to character selection.

Issuing another registration code replaces the earlier one. If a code has expired or the requested username changed, obtain a fresh code for the exact username and reconnect with that name.

Southland does not have a game password, password reset, or web registration page. Discord is the identity behind the account.

Log in to an existing account

Connect with your account username, not a character name.

  • A recognized recent login setup takes you directly to character selection.
  • An unrecognized setup requires a one-time login code sent to the Discord account linked to the game account. The Discord /code command is the fallback when the DM does not arrive.
  • Use the newest code Discord shows. Reconnecting while verification is pending returns you to that verification flow rather than creating a separate login.

Keep this as the basic login boundary. See Account security and recovery for trusted-device timing, clearing remembered logins, and Discord-link recovery.

Choose or create a character

After authentication, select an existing active character from the list. If your account has fewer than three active characters, the list also offers character creation. Three is the fixed account-wide active-slot limit, and you cannot switch characters inside a live session.

To create a character:

  1. Enter a unique name in Firstname_Lastname form.
  2. Choose male or female.
  3. Browse the available skins with the previous and next controls, then confirm one.
  4. Wait for creation to finish and the new character to enter the world.

Character names follow exact rules:

  • There is exactly one underscore between first and last name.
  • Each part has at least two letters, starts with one uppercase letter, and otherwise uses lowercase letters only.
  • The complete name is at most 24 characters.
  • The name must be unique across character names and account usernames, ignoring case.
  • A former character name remains unavailable for 30 days after a legal rename.

There is no application or approval wait after creation. If all three active slots are occupied, the create option is not shown. To play a different character after entering the world, disconnect and reconnect to return to character selection.

A permanently archived character does not consume one of the three active slots and cannot be selected. Your selection list shows it in a separate archived-history block with its name, archival kind, and archive date. Its name remains permanently reserved, its saved history does not transfer to a replacement, and selecting the history row only explains the permanent state. The character-death policy defines CK, retirement, archival consequences, and memorial privacy.

Understand account level and active time

Your account earns one XP for each complete minute you are actively playing a character. Time at login or character selection, time while the server considers you AFK, and time after you disconnect do not count. The total belongs to the account, so active time on any of your characters contributes to the same account level.

Your connected-player scoreboard score is this account level. Levels rise on a gradually steeper curve and stop at 100. The level is a public experience signal only: it does not unlock features, improve your character, or award money or items.

Use /stats in character to see the private account level, XP progress, and active time alongside that character’s separate playtime and roleplay details. Progress is saved in complete-minute batches; /stats may include the current exact runtime tail after its database snapshot succeeds, while the public scoreboard level changes only after durable confirmation. If persistence is unavailable, progression pauses rather than guessing or awarding time and resumes after confirmation recovers.

Know where your character will appear

A new character first appears at Unity Station in the overworld, with full health and no armour.

A returning character normally appears at the last safely saved position with the saved facing direction, health, armour, and skin. If a saved interior is no longer available, the server uses a safe exterior fallback. A character left with no health returns to the normal Unity spawn with full health.

These are the normal spawn outcomes; no other spawn choice is promised by this guide.

Cancel or recover an interrupted entry

  • Leaving the registration or login prompt, or quitting character selection, ends the connection. Reconnect when ready.
  • Backing out of the character-name prompt returns to character selection, and backing out of the sex choice returns to the name prompt.
  • Skin choice is required to complete creation. If you disconnect before confirmation, reconnect and begin the unfinished creation choices again.
  • If the final character creation succeeded but entry could not finish, reconnect and check the character list before trying to create the name again.
  • Account entry must be completed within five minutes of connecting. If it times out, reconnect and resume with the account username.
  • If login verification is still pending, reconnect and use the newest code from Discord. If no DM arrives, use the Discord /code fallback.
  • If the server says the account or character is already active, close the other connection before retrying.
  • If entry ends with login verification temporarily unavailable, that is a server-side check that could not complete, not a change to your account. Reconnect and verify again.

Your account controls Discord identity, authentication, vouch status, and the three character slots. Each character has its own roleplay name, appearance, location, and saved state. Keep that distinction in mind whenever a prompt asks for an account username rather than a character name.
