Mechanic work is a player-to-player repair service for a spawned persistent vehicle managed by the ownership system. It has no shift or supplied vehicle: after taking the job, a mechanic finds a nearby customer, sends a quoted offer, and is paid from the customer’s carried cash only if the checked repair completes.
Take the mechanic job
- Use
/jobsto review employment and locate the Mechanic signup. - Travel to the Temple mechanic shop and stand at its signup point.
- Use
/getjobthere. - Confirm that Mechanic is now the current character’s job.
You can perform the established repair service away from the signup shop. No mechanic truck, owned service vehicle, parts item, or duty toggle is required for this core workflow.
Prepare the repair scene
Before sending an offer:
- agree on the service in roleplay;
- keep the customer nearby and seated as the driver of the damaged vehicle;
- make sure you are targeting the intended character and vehicle; and
- confirm the damaged vehicle is a persistent owned vehicle rather than a temporary job or starter vehicle; and
- remind the customer that the quoted charge uses carried cash.
A mechanic cannot bill themself through this service. The vehicle must actually need a supported repair when the offer is sent and when it is accepted.
Offer and complete the repair
- With the scene prepared, use
/fixfor the intended customer. - The customer receives the current repair quote.
- The customer accepts with the offered confirmation key or declines it.
- Keep the mechanic, customer, and vehicle in place while the offer is considered.
- Wait for the final repair and payment result.
Acceptance rechecks employment, proximity, driver and vehicle state, damage, and customer funds. On success, the vehicle is durably restored to its model’s normal maximum condition and the quoted amount transfers from the customer’s carried cash to the mechanic’s carried cash.
Sending the offer is not a repair, and accepting a stale offer does not force one through. The customer keeps agency over the service until acceptance.
Understand refusal and cancellation
The service completes with no repair or payment when the customer declines. It can also fail safely if the offer expires, a participant disconnects, the players move apart, the customer leaves or changes vehicle, the vehicle’s damage changes, the mechanic changes job, or the customer can no longer cover the quote.
There is no mechanic-side cancellation command after sending the offer. Wait for the customer response or expiry, then restore the required scene before creating a fresh offer.
If a durable repair is proved absent after a charge, the transaction path reverses that exact charge. Both mechanic and customer receive the failure outcome. It confirms a return only after the inverse is proved; an ambiguous result instead says staff review is required. Do not issue another offer until both cash balances and the vehicle condition have been checked.
Recover from common problems
- The command is refused: confirm Mechanic is the current job and that the intended customer is nearby in the driver’s seat of a damaged persistent vehicle.
- The customer never sees or accepts it: keep both characters available and close, then wait for expiry before starting a new offer.
- The quote is unaffordable: the customer must prepare enough carried cash; bank funds are not used directly.
- The scene changes before acceptance: no completed service should be assumed. Restore the driver, vehicle, damage, distance, and funds before retrying.
- Payment or repair is unclear: compare both carried-cash balances and the vehicle’s current condition before sending another offer.
- A participant disconnects: the offer does not persist. Recreate the scene and send a fresh offer after reconnect.
Towing, bodywork categories, batteries, tuning, paint, consumable parts, and call-out dispatch are not part of this established mechanic core. See Finding work for employment changes and Roleplay and chat fundamentals for clear customer agreements.
