XM radio streams shared audio sources in supported vehicles, properties, and deployed boomboxes. This guide remains a draft while real-client playback, positional falloff, source switching, stream formats, and the station catalogue await review.
Tune a shared source
Use /setstation in a supported control context:
- as the driver or front passenger of a vehicle;
- inside a property where the character holds a key; or
- near a legally owned deployed boombox, standing in the same space it was placed in.
Open the enabled-station selector, choose a current station, or turn the source off. Rear vehicle passengers can listen but cannot tune.
Vehicle occupants and property occupants share that source selection. Owned vehicle, property, and deployed-boombox selections persist. Vehicle and property ownership changes reset their station; boombox transfer does not currently prove the same durable station reset, although redeployment starts its runtime source off. A property without utility power is currently silenced and cannot be tuned.
Control personal playback
/togxm disables or enables automatic XM playback only for the current character. It does not retune or silence the shared source for anyone else. The preference persists through reconnects and restarts.
/accessibility audio off is the account-wide override. It prevents automatic XM playback for every character on the account even when that character’s /togxm preference is enabled. It does not retune or silence the shared vehicle, property, or boombox source for another listener. /phone and /togxm status identify when the account-wide audio setting is suppressing playback.
Audio comes from external stream URLs that the game client connects to directly. The external station provider can observe that network request. /togxm is the persistent opt-out from automatic stream playback. Station content, names, branding, permissions, and supported formats remain under catalogue review.
Acquire and deploy a boombox
Obtain a boombox through an eligible open store’s current catalogue and confirm it in /inventory.
- Use the place action under
/boomboxfor the carried item. - Current placement is immediate at the character’s position after world checks; it does not open an initial editor.
- The deployed source starts off.
- Stand nearby and use
/setstationto tune it.
A character may have one boombox deployed at a time, anywhere in the world. Placement is refused while another one you own is still deployed, including one left inside a property or other interior. Take the deployed one back into inventory first.
Deployment moves the same traceable item into world custody. It remains owned and persistent rather than becoming abandoned when the owner disconnects.
Adjust, recover, or transfer
Use the adjust action under /boombox to move a nearby owned deployment to the character’s current position. Use the take action to return it to inventory when ownership and carrying checks pass.
Tuning, adjusting, and taking all resolve only a boombox in the space you are currently standing in. A boombox left inside a property or another interior has to be reached by entering that space; it is not reachable from outside even though it still counts against your one deployment.
A boombox can be offered through /give only while carried. If a deployment becomes inaccessible, use support rather than buying another to work around the ownership state.
Understand source priority
The intended listening order is an active occupied-vehicle source, then a nearby active boombox in the same space, then the active property source. Source switching and isolation remain under verification; use only the generic recovery below rather than relying on implementation ordering details.
Recover from playback problems
- Placement is refused because one is already deployed: return to the boombox you already have out and take it back into inventory. If you cannot reach or find it, use support rather than buying another.
- Tuning is refused: confirm the correct seat, property key, or nearby boombox ownership, and that you are standing in the same space as the boombox rather than outside it.
- Property audio is unavailable: check whether utility power is active.
- Personal audio is off: use
/togxm; this does not change anyone else’s source. - The account-wide audio override is off: use
/accessibility audio ononly if you want optional sounds and streams on every character. - Placement is refused: keep the item carried and move to a supported world position.
- A deployed item is inaccessible: preserve its last location and ownership for support instead of duplicating it.
- The wrong source plays: leave and re-enter the listening context once, then preserve the active sources for verification.
- A stream does not play: try no repeated state-changing action; station format and client compatibility remain under review.
Exact stations, URLs, distances, item prices, limits, and provider details are intentionally omitted.
